How to play texas holdem poker

Texas Holdem is one of the fastest growing games of poker in recent years. Whether it is it’s popularity on television with the World Series of Poker, or the movies that have been made, Texas Holdem is a game that has grown substantially over the past years. The rules of Texas Holdem is one of the reasons why so many people are adopting it as their game of choice. Like other poker games, players are required to place their blinds or antes into the center of the table. Often the ante comes from players who in the two seats directly to the left of the dealer. The person to the left closest to the dealer is the small blind, which pays half of the big blind. The big blind is paid by the person two seats to the left of the dealer. Once the blinds are placed in the center, each person at the table is dealt two cards face-down. Only the player who is dealt the cards can look at the cards until the showdown at the end of the hand. After these cards are dealt, a round of betting occurs. Players bet according to how they believe their “hole” cards compare to others at the table. Once these bets have been made, “the flop” occurs. With the flop come three community cards. These are cards that can be used by all players at the table to make the best possible 5-card poker hand. After the flop comes another round of betting. Those who do not call the bets made during this round must fold. Once the bets are collected, “the turn” card is flipped. This is another community card that can be used in the same fashion as the cards from the flop. Another round of betting follows and players must choose to call or fold once again. A final card, called “the river”, is flipped over. A final round of betting ensues. At the end of this round of betting if there are more than one player left, there is a showdown in which all players remaining must show their cards. The player with the highest 5-card poker hand wins the pot while the rest receive nothing. After the hand the dealer button rotates to the next person in a clockwise fashion and the blinds are made once again. Play continues this way until either the player decides to cash out or there is only one player left with all of the chips, depending on the type of game that is being played.
